Robert Moore, Organist
Music has always been an important thread in the tapestry of Robert Moore’s life.
Surrounded by music since birth, he began private piano lessons at age eight and soon added organ instruction. He played his first wedding at age fifteen and played for weekly church services thereafter. Following graduation from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, New York, he was accepted into Ithaca College and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1967. He then returned home to accept a full-time vocal music position at the newly built Edson Elementary School in the Kingston Consolidated School District.
Robert taught nearly 500 students weekly at Edson for 35 years. He was also responsible for an 85-voice children’s choir which was required to give at least two public concerts every year. In addition, he taught in-service classes for teachers, mentored student teachers, was a clinician in the Orff method of music education, and taught piano/organ privately for 45 years.
In 1967, Robert was hired as organist at Trinity Episcopal Church and is presently completing his 48th year of consecutive service. In 1970, he assumed his first piano/organ teacher's position as organist/choir master at St. Mary’s RC Church in Kingston and is now in his 45th year of service there.
Among his many accomplishments, Robert earned permanent NYS teaching certification for teaching music K–12; a Masters of Music degree, with many hours of additional graduate credits; and several other education certificates. He has played for hundred of weddings, funerals, worship services and special occasions. He continues to practice daily and advance himself professionally through the American Guild of Organists. He sees the organ as a vehicle to encourage and support corporate worship of Our Lord and Savior.
